Semester 1

Course Description

In this first Algebra course, students will learn about patterns. It is almost like completing a puzzle when most of the pieces are there and all that is needed is one more piece. Students will learn how to translate patterns into algebraic sentences. Algebraic sentences include equations and inequalities. In both cases, the student will develop the skills to identify and solve for the variables. Algebra 1A is full of new concepts and students will have many opportunities to demonstrate mastery of their growing skill set. In each interactive lesson, students have the opportunity to work through and complete several self-check activities and quizzes as well as participate in self-reflection. In each unit, students complete the unit exam and deliver a unit project. Teacher feedback is provided throughout the course.

Semester 2

Course Description

Algebra 1B builds upon the algebraic concepts covered in Algebra 1A and provides a strong foundation for advanced level courses. Students review algebraic concepts and work on projects that include exponents and exponential functions, polynomials and factoring, quadratic functions, theoretical probability, and transformations. The ability to manipulate algebraic expressions is critical in geometry, which typically follows that class. Students in this course learn through many avenues, including textbook materials, video lectures, and interactive activities. Each unit contains a project that relates the math to practical, real-world applications.
